1st John 3:9

1 John 3:9 “Those who are born again because of what God has done will not keep on sinning. God's very nature remains in them. They can't go on sinning. They have been born again because of what God has done.”

When we are born again we are given a fresh start in God’s family. God gives us power over sin. Again, it’s not that we will never sin again – we just won’t have the nature of continually sinning or treating sin lightly.

Because remember, earlier in this letter John said if we say we have no sin we deceive ourselves and in chapter 1 verses 8-10 he urges us to confess our sins and goes on to say that when we do sin we have an advocate with the Father in Jesus Christ.

Being sin free is our goal, which will be realized in the world to come and right now we are in the process of getting there.
